Wow, it’s really hard to believe Justin and I have already been engaged for a whole year!
Justin surprised me today with a pair of earrings to mark the occasion (What a sweetheart!). They’re not any old earrings, either. They’re Swarovski earrings that perfectly match my engagement ring. Super awesome!
Maybe we’ll actually plan a wedding… one of these days…
Let’s recap the year:
- May - Engaged on the River Walk in San Antonio!
- Val! and I went out to celebrate the engagement
- June - Justin and I started off the summer right with a picnic in Flushing Park (photos)
- We headed to Montana (photos and more photos) for my work and spent a day in Denver, which was a lot of fun (photos from Denver)
- Justin, Mom, Val!, (Joey), and I had a misadventure while hiking in the Catskills which resulted in stitches for me (photos)
- July – We had a great trip to Puerto Rico with Marisa and Alex (photos)
- Justin, Val! and I all turned 28
- August – Justin and I were stressed because Ruby developed Cherry Eye… but we got it fixed and she’s been great since!
- I got to see Sheila’s new house and Justin and I spent time with lots of family and friends in August (photos)
- September – I was back in Montana for work and Justin visited me for one amazing weekend (photos)
- JetBlue was completing work on T5 and Justin and I went to the Chili Pepper Fiesta in Brooklyn (photos)
- October – Justin and I celebrated our 4th anniversary by taking a vacation to Poland (with a stop in Vienna)! (photos)
- We met up with Jenny and Cody in Vieques, Puerto Rico! (photos)

Off on a ‘Top Secret’ Journey

In truth, it’s only top secret to me. Justin has something secret and special planned for our 4th anniversary (Wow!!! 4 years!); his lips are sealed on the topic. In a few hours, I’ll know where we’re attempting to go. We are flying standby, afterall.
What I’ve managed to deduce so far: It’s probably an international flight given how long we’ll be waiting at the airport. It’s not a JetBlue flight, given the attire I am wearing to attempt to get on the plane. I don’t know if we’re taking the puppies or if someone is watching them – though am guessing the latter considering it’s possibly a non-JetBlue flight. I’ve also managed to deduce it is not a Caribbean destination after all (I’d originally thought otherwise) as I was told not to packed sandals, hiking, or beach clothes. This goes entirely against typical Justin and Vanessa vacations – no hiking!? So, I am stumped. I just hope we make it on the flight. With only 5 seats open and an unknown number of standby passengers, it’s a gamble at best.
Luckily Justin has a couple of backup plans. =)
I read this quote a moment ago and it had a strangely peace-inducing effect. I thought I’d share it with you: “Give each day the chance to become the best one in your life“ – Mark Twain
Happy Anniversary to Us!

Hello World…
Breakfast – great
Scenery – good to great
Company – excellent
Yesterday we took a gondola ride up to Mount Mansfield and hiked back down. We saw some really lovely foliage and a porcupine! I couldn’t imagine skiing that trail in the winter, though! In some areas it seems far too narrow and unforgiving! We also swung by Ben and Jerry’s for their factory tour. I was surprised (read: disappointed) to learn that they sold out to a corporation. The place was cute, however, and the people friendly. The “past flavors graveyard” was probably my favorite part, aside from the free sample. They were only sampling one flavor, banana rum. It was actually pretty good though.
Last night we saw 3:10 to Yuma in a tiny little theater that served cocktails while you watch the movie. Afterwards, we came home and cozied up in front of the fireplace, roasting marshmallows, chatting between ourselves, looking through a photo book of VT and enjoying some wine, cheese, and bread before heading to bed. We’ve both been dealing with allergy problems this trip. They’ve left me in a somewhat sore mood during the day and tossing and turning at night. Luckily, Justin gave me a dose of Theraflu last night which helped me fall asleep so I feel somewhat rested today.
I just heard the shower turn off, which means it is almost time to go down to breakfast! Woohoo!
