Chef Jupe

Tonight I cooked dinner.  It may not sound like an event to you, but it’s quite rare for me.  Not only is it a novel occassion in its own right, but the meal turned out really good.  My critic (Justin) gave it a 9/10.  Bueno!

The dish was the ever-so-healthy penne a la vodka.  OK, maybe it’s not healthy - but it is good!  I made it pretty much exactly like the recipe instructs.  I only added a little cayenne pepper to the sauce.  I also braised chicken in olive oil with just some salt and pepper.  Sliced that up and it went on top (as did crushed red pepper on mine).  So yummy!  I should’ve taken a photo.  It was pretty and pink too.

Mom gave Justin and I a bottle of Riesling that she acquired on her drive back from Chicago with Val! (they were roadtrip buddies).  It went perfectly with the dish.  I know you’ll want to make it now. :)  If you do - let me know how it goes!

I also finally got around to added photos of Halloween.  I was probably motivated because both Alex and Marisa put up photos of their recent trip to Aruba. Now if I ever get around to adding our fall foliage shots of Portland, ME…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Russa - tvoyasarochka

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Russa - by tvoyasarochka

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles knew what Pizza Power was all about. They just didn’t know it came in a 12-volt variety.

Let’s be realistic here… There have been many a nights I’ve wandered upstate with the goal in mind to camp, considered BBQing, but secretly just wanted to devour a freshly baked pizza. Now, some rugged people out there might actually bake a pizza over a roaring campfire. I’ve never done this. I don’t know if it is possible.

…A quick web search proves that indeed it is possible! There is an illustrious ehow article written giving detailed instructions and supplies…

But for those of us that are not quite so daring, not quite so adventurous, and, honestly, not quite so motivated to prepare pizza crusts, stoke up a roaring fire, and haul along frying pans, there is a solution. This solution was brought to my attention by Alex of “It’s What’s Between,” the Sandwich Review blog.

Portable Pizza Oven

Portable Pizza Oven

Moments like this make me want to close my tear-filled eyes, clasp my hands and whisper a heartfelt “God Bless America.” Someone has invented a portable pizza oven that plugs right into your car’s cigarette lighter. Imagine the implications. We will never have to go without pizza again!

The usefulness of this product doesn’t just begin and end with camping trips. Oh no! This audacious contraption can go anywhere you can go with four wheels! Tubing on the Guadalupe? Heat up a pizza before or after your dip in the icy waters! Going Muddin’ with some friends? How about a hot, cheesy mouthful of pepperoni pizza while you’re kickin’ up some muck. I know you’ve worked up an appetite with all that hootin’ and hollerin’! And as Sheila, blog keeper of “Little Bohemia,” mentioned - this little oven is the perfect go-to for picky eaters at a tailgate. UT fans will never go hungry again!

For those of you that are curious, you can check out this precious little product and others like it here. I am thinking the portable slow cooker would be a perfect gift for my Dad. ;)

Delightful Morning

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 | Positivity | 3 Comments

I woke up this morning in a very good mood. I just have this positive feeling radiating throughout me today, and in the shower couldn’t stop singing “Semi-Charmed Kinda Life,” which, in all honesty, is not even a song that I like! Ok, I actually started out singing “How to Be a Millionaire” but somehow the other song popped into my head.

I commented to Justin that I wished we had something more interesting to eat for breakfast (aside from our staples of Pop-Tarts and peanut butter toast) and he suggested we grab food from the Asian bakery across the boulevard. I was game. Mmmm, a steamed red bean bun…

Walking onto the street felt like walking into an oven. Seriously, it’s crazy hot for 10 AM! It’s 94 degrees already. Justin took his pastries and biked off in the direction of JetBlue’s headquarters for work, and I began the short stroll home. Because of the heat, I’m wearing a sleeveless shirt, shorts and flip-flops.

As I walked past the bank on the corner, I caught my reflection in its large windows and couldn’t suppress my smile. For some reason today I just feel so well-suited to live in this city. That’s a good thing, considering last night Justin brought up renewing our lease in October. New York, New York - I guess we’ll have to dance this dance for a little while longer.

All in all, we’re very pleased with the changes. I had to take a nap in the middle of the day to sooth my mood. It worked brilliantly and both the puppies slept with me, even though Justin was in the living room. We concluded the night by ordering in and watching I am Legend. I promised Val! my take on the movie, which is:
Decent, sad, slowww.
