Waiting on Ruby - Getting her Cherry Eye fixed
Friday, August 15th, 2008 | Puppies | 6 Comments
Few of you have seen Ruby and her small problem in her left eye. She has something called Cherry eye - common and fixable - however it required outpatient surgery (in and out on the same day). Eek! There are two procedures that can fix this problem: one invovles the vet to basically push the third eyelid back in and seal it with a suture - this has a 80% success rate; the other involves cutting out the part of the third eyelid that is exposed - this has many problems that can occur down the line with drying of the eye. So we chose the first option. She will be forced to wear a new see-thru Elizabethan collar - not so sexy. Eve was so sad and constantly searching for her sister all day, Occasionally i would hear a deep sigh come from her and this is when this photo was snapped.
This afternoon tromping through the downpour in Forest Hills we saved a wobbly, still partially anesthetized, extremely hungry Ruby. When Ruby came home much to Ruby’s dismay, Eve kept running away from her. Ruby was desperate for her sister’s attention and comforting nuzzles, but Eve wouldn’t have any of it - probably because she was scared of Ruby’s collar. Ruby eventually gave up on trying to get Eve’s attention and settled for pets from Mommy and daddy. Get well soon Ruby!
