Awesome Photos: N-E-S-S

Sunday, September 7th, 2008 | Family, Fun | 7 Comments

Val!, Karen and Mike were all hanging out last night as Val! is visiting Texas. They went to dinner with Mom and Dad and then sat around reminiscing and just randomly chattering.  I asked Mom to take some photos of them, at which point she said they had taken a group shot before they left.  I told her to tell them to take some Lyrael.com style photos and to mention “letters” and “Tab” to them.  Now, to those of you new readers of this site (new as in the 6 years, woe is me), you surely don’t know what I mean.  Back in 2002, Karen, Val! and I became quite creative (and silly) when it came to taking and uploading photo sets.  I hoped they’d want to do something goofy that hearkened back to those good times.  Sure enough, they did!  For your viewing pleasure, here are the two photos Val! has sent me so far:

Love you guys!!! And I miss you! XO XO

PS: If anyone out there wants to take silly photos and email them to me, that’d be awesome too! :)  Maybe we can get Peanut in on the action… She kinda looks like she is “E” shaped in the photos below. :)

Update: Another one!  I love this one! The lighting is great! Look how long and pretty Karen’s hair is!  I definitely dig everyone’s expressions on the “N” here.

How My Mind Processes Data and Some Movement Down Chicago Way

Friday, August 22nd, 2008 | Family, Seasonal, Thoughts | 2 Comments

On a side note, I am a little disappointed no one else commented on the last entry about cutting and self-injury. Some of you messaged me, some of you said nothing, but Justin was the only person to actually comment. His comment was thoughtful and heartfelt. I just hoped for more from you guys.

Crossing the street the other day, I noticed a main walking in the opposite direction. I glanced at him briefly and had the impression that his T-Shirt said “Bush” on it.

My Thought: Someone’s wearing a t-shirt that says Bush on it? Like the president? This has to be interesting.

My 2nd glance revealed the figure of person beneath the word with a fist raised triumphantly into the air and a sort of star behind it.

My Thought: Okay, that’s even weirder! Someone is wearing a shirt that says Bush on it that’s not derogatory, but instead is positive!? What’s going on here!?

You guessed it, I had to look at this poor fellow’s t-shirt a 3rd time to get the full gist of what was actually happening on his t-shirt! And then it all made sense. The shirt said “Rush” on it - not Bush (you can see the t-shirt here. I was a little off). The world was back to normal.

So Wonderful Chicago
In other news, Val! had an interview in Chicago today for a freelance editing job. Not long after the interview, they called to offer her the gig. Wooohooo!!!! The job guarantees one month of solid editing work on a weekly series about gangs. I don’t know more than that, but I know it will allow her to be in Chicago which in itself is fabulous. It also allows her to be there when that glorious Midwestern city is welcoming Autumn in all it’s golden glory. Ahh… Lucky ducky.

And if everything goes as we hope, they’ll have more work for her after the first month. I’m not going to get into what she is getting paid for her hourly rate, but I will say it’s double what I make if I were to be paid hourly. That’s more than you can shake a stick at! Granted, it’s only guaranteed for one month, but who knows! Congratulations Val!!! Take that Windy City by storm!… and don’t be surprised when I come visit you for days at a time. ;)

*It would make more sense to use a photo of Val! and I from Chicago here, but upon checking Flickr and Picasa, I can’t seem to find one. :(

Letter to God, Letter to the World

Friday, July 25th, 2008 | Popular, Positivity | 6 Comments

Dear God, World, Universe, Energy - whatever is out there…

I want to create and live off of my creations. I want to create by myself. I want to create with other people. I want to write, sing, make movies (documentaries for now). I want to help others get published and get published myself. I want to take photographs and sell them. I want Justin and I to take photographs together and travel the world. I want to make videos with Val! and have a following of people that are genuinely interested. I want us to be able to sustain a nice living off of these projects. I want to create, love and be happy - and I want the same for my loved ones and all those that want this for themselves, too.

I want life to be “how it should be.” A community of good people, good friends, creating, enjoying, being out there in the world and really living and experiencing it all.

Thanks for the thunderstorm the other night. That was a great birthday present. And thanks in advance, for the future.

Love,
Ness

Happy Birthday Valerie

Making Out Like a Bandit
Justin gave me a new cell phone, a black zebra shirt I’d been ogling, and a sexy, red 350 gig wallet drive. Sweet! Data in one, easy access spot!
Val! gave me a book with travel tips and inspirations for solo female travelers (Fly Solo) and a book about traveling for hobbies, education, or just about any other interest you might have (The 100 Best Vacations to Enrich Your Life). They’re both rad. She also gave me a pair of pink star earrings a la Jem (which I’ll be wearing soon) and a gift card for an *hour long* massage. WOOHOO!
Mom sent a lovely bouquet of flowers (pictured above).
ALA sent me flowers too. =) That was super sweet of them.
Lyndia (Justin’s mom) gave me a necklace and earring set and cash (always good).
I’ve gotten phone calls; e-mails; IMs; Adventured.net, MySpace and Facebook comments as well as Twitter tweets. I feel loved. Thanks guys! =)

Very Troubling Times

Friday, June 6th, 2008 | News | 5 Comments

This can be seen as a continuation from my post earlier this week entitled Inexplicable Anxiety.

I have even more disturbing news! No, it’s not that Continental announced they’re cutting 3000 jobs nor is it that United is dissolving Ted… No, dear readers, the news today is a far more alarming discovery.

My sister Val! sent me this news from the streets of Manhattan yesterday evening.
Prepare yourselves, because I don’t think it gets anymore unsettling than this. The true sign that we’re in troubling times - a woman was spotted wearing Hammer Pants on the streets of Manhattan yesterday!

Thanks to Val! for texting me this picture.

This is life-shattering, society-destroying news if ever there were any. Either it means the lady is so destitute and broke she had to fish in her closet for this relic of 1990 fashion as it is the only pair of pants she any longer owns and can wear OR - god forbid - this is actually coming back in style. If that’s the case, we should definitely pray for the future of our country.

Abandoned New Jersey Beach

Gate on the beach
Originally uploaded by pandoralyrael

Val! and I went for a drive after my 4 mile run with Thao yesterday. We explore southern New Jersey and discovered a beautiful preserve, larger than Yosemite, called the Pinelands. Thank goodness to National Geographic Adventure for recommending it. It was beautiful! There were so many trails, a beautiful lake with an adorable goose that was fishing in the cool water, and even a babbling brook!

After we left the pinelands we came to a little town and met a kind young man at a convenience store that recommended we head to Long Beach Island. It was so cool! You can easily walk from one side of the island to the other - it can’t even be a 1/4 mile across. The beaches were so beautiful, pristine and deserted!

After hanging out there for a while it was time to head back toward Rutherford. Val! and I ate at a Cajun/Texmex place. The chips. salsa, guacamole and queso were actually all very good. Yummy!!! It was a FANTASTIC day full of great photos and a lot of fun. I am looking forward to another like it soon. :) Check out more photos of the day here.
